The Premier’s Sustainability Award – a sustainable piece of history.
The 2010 award is made from recycled materials central to Melbourne’s heritage.
The upright fronds are made from window surrounds, sun screen shutters and doorway bulkheads of a W Class tram. The timber has been salvaged from a damaged tram that has been used over time as a source of parts to ensure the W Class stays on the tracks.
The timber base has been saved from the Princes Pier restoration in Port Melbourne. The Princes Pier is one of Melbourne’s most important waterfront locations, playing a key role for Australia in the first and second World Wars.
The award plaques are made from salvaged brass offcuts. The Award is housed in a
recycled paperboard case.
